Creating a garden design: here’s how to do it

There comes a time when you determine that you want something different with your garden. A new layout because your needs have changed. Or maybe you are simply bored with the old look of your garden. Whatever the reason, never rush into anything. Take the time to list what you want and most importantly, create a garden design.

Why garden design is so important

A garden design is actually the blueprint for your garden. Because while it is tremendous fun to redesign a garden, it is also a labor-intensive job. Moreover, a new garden is often also a considerable investment. By making a garden design, you avoid overlooking important issues or worse: that afterwards you are not completely satisfied with how it turned out.

If you set to work without a garden design, you run the risk of making choices that, in hindsight, are not so useful. The lawn, for example, turns out to be in the shade all day, leaving you with a patch of moss instead of beautiful grass. Or the garbage container is suddenly very close to your new terrace… To avoid these kinds of problems, you make a garden design.

Starting your garden design

If you are going to create a garden design, start by surveying your garden. Take measurements and make a floor plan showing what you want to keep from your current garden. Also look carefully at sun and shade in the garden. With this basis, you can continue to lay out your new garden.

On the floor plan, indicate where you want your patio to be. Work to scale, because that way you can immediately see if what you have in mind will fit. Also take into account passages. You may have to get the container from the other side of the garden to put it on the street. In that case, of course, you don’t want to get stuck halfway between your new pond and the fence with the neighbors.

Getting a professional garden design done

Do you have everything penciled in? Then it’s time for the specific garden design. What kind of paving do you want, where will the light points be and what plants will you choose for your new garden? By thinking about this in advance, it is easier to see your garden as a whole. This way, you coordinate everything.

Creating a complete garden design is something you can do yourself, but you can also outsource it to a professional. The garden designers at StukArt Gardens will be happy to get to work for you. So you can be sure that nothing is overlooked and of course we can also advise you which plants are suitable for each spot in your garden. We present the result to you in a complete floor plan and in 3D design. You can then immediately see what your new garden will look like!
